About the work of the artistgroup treuka
The treuka group has worked together on several artistic projects and exhibitions since 2001.
The essential characteristics of treuka's work are the different perspectives of the individual artists which flow together through their cooperation, equally empowering each of them and producing totally new results.
The medium is drawing in a wide variety of formats, including murals approximately
7 x 4 metres (23 x 13 feet).
Each artist makes their contribution in turn on a rotation principle, that is each is first, then second and third to work on successive pieces. The themes for the joint drawings are taken from suggestions from other people. The artists do not keep slavishly to the respective theme, and one may find that what finally appears is quite removed from the original topic.
The choice of theme determines the process.
There is no censoring of the themes.
This modus operandi gives treuka's works the character of a service for an anonymous client.

Comment by Spunk Seipel, curator, berlin Febuary, 2004

There are and have been numerous attempts by artists to work together to produce a work of art. Apart from a few instances, such as the life-work of Gilbert & George, most of these attempts have been qickly abandoned. Vanity is a great obstacle when artists get together in order to create a work in which the authorship of the individual plays a subordinate role.
This makes treuka, the project on which Felix Carl, Annette Stieger and Tamara Troelsch have cooperated since 2001, all the more joyous and exciting.
They receive suggestions for the subjects of their pictures from friends, trustees, collectors and strangers. Sometimes these develop into groups of work on a complex theme, occasionally, particularly with the large-scale murals, a theme is represented by a single piece.
Working on a rotation basis, the first artist begins by drawing on paper, wooden boards or walls. When he/she has finished his/her part, the baton is passed on to the next, who continues the work, stimulated by the prior. Finally the third member of treuka takes over and concludes the team effort. Each artist in turn brings their subjective view and their own style to each individual work, from which nevertheless emerges a collective work that yields a new whole.
treuka renounce painting: colour is used sparingly, while line has an immensely important significance, independent of the size of the completed work. This is all the more notable, since the drawn contours starkly betray the personal handwriting of an artist.
What is exceptional about treuka is the duration of the group's cohesion, the development of a distinctive work process and most particularly the emergance of an unmistakable style, without negating the individual styles of each member. In this treuka is unique.
